Shepherds Cottage Reviews

Lauren
Thank you for a fantastic stay. The cottage was decorated beautifully and had everything we needed. The beds were really comfortable and we absolutely loved being able to see the sheep and lambs out the front of the cottage.
Brendon
Great place to stay anytime of the year, and really nice location. The hot tub was great when we stayed in winter! Nicole and Reuben were friendly, and plenty of nice walks, pubs etc in the area.
It was our second visit to Shepherds Cottage this year. Its in a great location and within easy reach of Hawkshead village with all its facilities. A beautiful cosy cottage, perfect for some much needed mum and daughter time. The bonus of a hot tub to soothe tired legs after a days walking! All the fixtures and fittings are of excellent quality and personal touches such as the advent calendar ensure a welcoming stay. Its no wonder its booked up months in advance. I would highly recommend a stay here. Well definitely be staying again in the future.
Aislinn
The property was lovely very well maintained, clean and well equipped. Hot tub was lovely and clean, added touch of robes and slippers was lovely. Bedrooms were perfect and had everything you needed and more. The only addition that would be useful is a clothes rail or additional hanging space for wet clothing
Shepherds Cottage surpassed all our expectations. We read the listing on your website and the photos looked lovely, but arriving in the dark to this beautiful cottage and opening the gate to see the porch lit up and a lovely Xmas wreath in the door it looked just charming. The cottage was beautifully decorated inside and the most comfortable furnishings you could wish for, making our stay an absolute joy, so much so we really didn't want to leave and I've booked again for next year. For people looking for a charming cottage, well positioned in the Lakes but far enough away to be serenity itself Shepherds Cottage is ideal.
Real nice place, we had snow which made it extra special
Vanessa
We had a lovely time at Shepherds Cottage. It was warm and welcoming and suited us as a family of 4 very well. It's a beautiful setting, really peaceful. The children loved seeing all the animals. Thank you!
Loved it! I have mobility issues but found the accommodation easy to negotiate and the shower accessible. It was beautifully clean throughout and I wouldn't hesitate to book again next year.
Great cottage in a beautiful location. We had a very relaxing holiday thanks.
Robert
A wonderful adjoined property located on a working farm with lovely owners. .. walks from the door into Hawkshead and views accross fields and lakes... the hot tub got plenty of use. We shall return for sure.
Claire
A lovely location over looking the lake on a working farm. The cottage is very cosy and nice and warm with everything you could need. Hot tub is an added bonus after a long day doing activities. The kids loved getting to know the farm animals especially the sheep! A lovely stay, even if the weather wasnt kind to us!!
What a beautiful cottage, in an absolutely stunning location. The hot tub was a very welcome addition after a long day in the hills. Great to be surrounded by the livestock too. The hosts were an absolutely delightful, as was the dog! Already looking at return dates.
Richard
Great location, property was really nice. We didnt feel the hot tub area was all that private with overlooking windows etc. so didnt use it. Installing usb plug sockets next to the beds and also a usb socket in the lounge would be a great addition no criticism just an suggestion. The driveway could benefit from infilling the ridges with gravel, fully understand this is working farm. All that said, great property and awesome location, we had a nice relaxing stay and would both recommend and return.
Natasha
Lovely, quiet place to get away for a couple of days. Me and three of my friends stayed back in July and had a great time. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Theres a beautiful view from the back of the cottage in which you can see the sheep and horses in the field. There was a warm, relaxing a hot tub and there is also a shop close by within walking distance so you dont have to worry about driving far for food. We didnt use our car once the whole trip and even managed to hike up and get the ferry to Windermere. I will say the shower did stop working on the day we checked out none of us could shower early morning before we left even though our check out wasnt till later that morning. Despite this it was a great stay and we would definitely come back.
Catherine
Excellent thanks!
Shepherds Cottage was just perfect for our stay. It was beautifully clean and very well equipped. The hot tub was an added bonus. Location was ideal and the views were lovely. Staying on a working farm was delightful. Waking up to the sheep and being greeted at the kitchen window by the cows and calves was great. We were able to really relax and unwind. We would not hesitate to recommend Shepherds Cottage and look forward to returning.
Really enjoyed our stay. The animals and views added to its charm.
Rachael
We loved every minute of our stay in this perfectly appointed cottage. We couldn't have asked for a better base for our Lakes holiday. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well equipped, and had the most comfortable beds! Watching the lambs outside was a joy, and although we didn't use the hot tub, this is a fab added extra to have available.

Beautiful little cottage situated in an idyllic part of the lake district. Beautiful views from all windows including lake and hills, had fun watching the lambs playing in the field at the front of the cottage and the calfs running around from the kitchen window at the side of the property. This clean well equipped cottage is just what we needed for a relaxing break. Well done to the owners Reuben and Nicole
I'm pleased to review this property well. My wife and I both agree a great place to stay and we both had a very relaxing time there.
This was our second visit to the lodge and we again had a lovely stay at this beautiful location. We were very fortunate to enjoy some great weather. The lodge was clean and well presented and the welcome pack was appreciated. The lodge is in a perfect location to explore the Lake District and the nearby village of Hawkshead has everything you need to complete your perfect holiday.

This is the second time we stayed at Shepherds Cottage and it didnt disappoint, in fact weve booked for 2025 already . Such a lovely cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside, wake up each morning to see the lambs in the field outside the back door . We had a lovely weekend in a beautiful part of the Lakes. The Cottage was tastefully decorated and was fully equipped with everything needed. We loved the views, the hot tub and just a short walk into the lovely wee village. So much to do in and around the area. We would love to come back.

We had a wonderful stay at Shepherds Cottage, everything was spotless on arrival, and everything we needed was there! Such a cosy little cottage stay in a great location. Will definitely be returning in the future.
We had a wonderful break here at this idyllic location. Photos dont do this place justice, its absolutely beautiful inside and has everything you need for a self catering stay. Hosts are very welcoming. Would highly recommend this place if youre looking for R&R on the edge of a village with amenities. Fabulous walks from the cottage, were already looking to book again for a stay in the winter. Hot tub an absolute plus to enjoy after a days walking. A little piece of heaven in the Lake District.
Lovely cottage with everything you need for a relaxing time away, The hot tub was amazing with slippers and robes to get about in. Would definitely recommend this lovely place and hopefully get back soon
Absolutely beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting with views of the lake and hills. The cottage was so comfy and cosy and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the added extras ie bath robes, slippers were a bonus. Would love to come back.
This is our favourite Lake District accommodation. The property is better equipped tham most, comfortable, in a good position, and has the added bonus of the hot tub.
We had a brilliant week here and would love to come back again. The location is perfect we visited in February half term and it was a perfect mix of enough things going on in Hawkshead to keep us busy, but not overwhelmingly busy like other areas such as Bowness. The property was beautiful, we couldn't have asked for a better base. I also owe a big thank you to the hosts who saved us one evening when the Tooth fairy made an unexpected visit and we were out of change! Thank you again!
We had an absolutely amazing week for our honeymoon and everything was there that we needed. It was cosy and clean and the hot tub was an extra special bonus! Thank you for a week we will remember and we hope to return in the future!
Tracey
This was a beautiful cottage, hosted by a beautiful family, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. We were stuck in the blizzard that occurred over the weekend and the family at Howe farm went above and beyond to help us out, we cannot thank them enough. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and had everything you need in the kitchen, it was a perfect break and weve already said we would go back there.
Absolutely loved our stay in a lovely and comfortable cottage in a stunning location. The owners have put so much thought into making the cottage feel like a home away from home and everything thats provided is such good quality. We will definitely return!
Absolutely amazed at the care and attention taken to this cottage.
Great hosts nothing was any trouble fab break
Every comfort taken care of. Wish them well for their future
Nicola
Friendly hosts, with excellent knowledge of the local area. Wonderful to see the awesome work going on around the farm. We will be back for another visit. xx
