Ellie's Lodge Reviews

After a few booking issues, we had the most amazing celebration with our family and friends. The house was perfect with plenty of fun things to do with games rooms. Hot tub and sauna were an added bonus. Breakfast delivered from the cafe over the way was a bonus. The house was well equipped and had everything in the kitchen you needed for a large gathering to be catered for. A very special occasion, thank you.
Lovely stay, lovely place. Thank you x
Lovely house and we had lovely family time . . 24 of us .The house was clean and comfortable. However ! The 1000 bond we had to pay the owner has been unreturned . The temperature outside was 9c . Lifting the top off of the hot tub the brittle hinges snapped . My husband reported this immediately. Since returning home the owner has informed us that he will be keeping 855 of our bond stating that the hot tub also needed a new cover . The picture he sent us was of a weathered , perished vinyl cover which happens over months not during a weekend . We have said that we are willing to pay for the hinges but not the cover . Sykes dont want to know which l find appalling. Weve been told by Sykes that if we want any money back then go through a dispute via a small claims court . On reading previous reviews on Google and Trip Advisor , it becomes apparent that this is a common trait of the owner retaining bonds ! BEWARE IF ANYONE ELSE BOOKS IN FUTURE AS YOU ARE AT RISK OF GETTING RIPPED OFF ! Its not on and these landlords should not be getting away with it !
We had an amazing family Christmas with everyone from 2 to 68 yrs entertained throughout. Along with the facilities provided this also included trips to buy items to prepare food for 18 hungry mouths, despite having brought extra cooking equipment with us. It was also obvious that the main clientele are hen and stag parties by the number of pint and champagne glasses and lack of basic family glasses. Teapots were a pleasant surprise. The hot tub and sauna were particularly well used along with the pool table. The ability to find a quiet space in the very comfortable drawing room was an wonderful treat for the older members of the family.

This was a beautiful warm large comfy house . Great for large groups with the bar, games and space and we did on the whole have lots of fun . The owner was lovely and contactable but only after paying full amount and whilst in the property. However , I cannot say the same for Sykes who did not return any of my calls or emails when I had pre concerns about the configurations of the rooms. I would have changed to a larger house if I could have but they would not reply or help until it was too late ! I add I tried from August until November We had 12 couples and I needed 12 doubles . 1 of the rooms was a childs room off the family double sharing a bathroom and not big enough for adults so 2 of my guests had to sleep on sofas which marred the experience a little. The hot tub did not work and we had to borrow extra cutlery from the adjoining garden center but these are minor things and I would certainly return if they were rectified although not with 12 couples and not through Sykes sykes, if you are reading this please check your complaints emails , WhatsApps and telephone chats as well. One man I eventually spoke to did promise verbally to look into my concerns and reply to me before I paid the balance but he never did . I did eventually get 1 email once it was too late to cancel stating that there were 13 doubles and no one would have to share but this information was in correct . A reply would at least be curtious .
Had a great time celebrating my wifes 60th with our family. So spacious, and had everything we needed. The bar was good fun and the big WiFi speaker was a bonus. Living spaces and kitchen were amazing. Jacuzzi, sauna and table tennis room were all put to good use. Bedrooms were superb. Pool table needs a bit TLC. The owner was contactable and replied to a question i had strsight away. Overall all, a fantastic place to stay and great fun was had by all.

The cottage was fabulous, plenty of space, the bedrooms were amazing. What made it really fun was the barpool table area which is ideal for big parties, fridges and speaker really great and plenty of seating. Be mindful that it is opposite to a Garden centre but not secure around the back and absolutely take before and after photos of everything inside and out, especially the hot tub, as we were asked to pay for damage to the hot tub, which we were able to prove we did not do and which was accepted by the owner. Would still definitely recommend it as a great venue for family and friends.
We had a fantastic stay at Ellies lodge for our first visit of the Lake District. The house is in Ulverston and has a vey close Aldi and M&S in case you need it. The town is not too far too. The rooms look exactly like the pictures and we loved the hot tub, sauna and the games room. We initially could not figure out the heating and wifi password but that was later resolved. Overall it was great and would stay here again.

We've just returned from Ellies Lodge after a 3 night stay, for our daughters 40th birthday. This property is amazing everyone really enjoyed it, plenty of room for everyone to be together or a quiet lounge if you wanted to just sit & chat! We had a couple of issues which were sorted immediately so no complaints at all! Facilities were well thought out, we could eat in easily as kitchen well provided with all you need! Thank you for helping to make this a weekend to remember!
Ellies Lodge is an excellent accommodation for larger groups, all of the bedrooms are clean and comfortable and have en suite facilities. The house is huge and had more than enough space for us, we spent most of our time in the bar area. Checkin was very smooth and the owner communicated with me on the arrival day with lots of useful information the cafe in the adjoining garden centre was excellent for breakfasts. 10 minutes walk from the town and costs 4 for a taxi back, great location and nice and quiet on the evening. I would definitely recommend it and would happily return in the future.

We stayed in this property for a hen party. After our weekend I waited over 10 days for the deposit I was then told we had left damage. We we knew we hadnt, I requested pictures on numerous occasions and received blurry pictures of fluff on some floor and towels with make up on that hadnt been attempted to be cleaned. After back and forth we only received 800 back as she charged us for a cleaning company to go in. I have since seen on the cleaning companys Facebook page them cleaning the property and not one stain is shown anywhere that she had claimed. The house is lovely and our stay was amazing unfortunately the after service is poor and be very cautious about the bond requested. Take plenty of pictures upon entering and exiting the property. So disappointed in the customer service.
We are very satisfied with the property over all. Starting with the interior, beautifully designed 'a combination of contemporary & rusty look' has given a fabulous look. All the facilities were available for a holiday. Clean and tidy. No problems of hot water. Luxuries and comfortable
Laurence
Had a super week at Ellies lodge with plenty of room for 24 people. Ellies lodge was both clean and comfortable the living space and bedrooms where in excellent condition and avcredit to the owner. Would highly recommend Ellies lodge perfect for exploring the lake district
Catherine
Wonderful house. Spacious. Particularly good for a large family. Plenty of variety of spaces to not be on top of one another.
Maybe another hot tub as the house sleeps alot of people so would definitely benefit another.
Absolutely brilliant, a group ranging from 12 to 75. The bar was great fun with the pool table and darts. Kitchen amenities were fine, could do with juice glasses and fizz flutes. Bedrooms all lovely. Everyone happy with their room. Loved it so much were looking at visiting again.

We absolutely loved our stay at Ellies couldnt fault it apart from the WiFi but that was fixed when an engineer came out at the weekend that was prebooked and was great after that. The rooms are all you excellent and the house and facilities are amazing. We had a disabled family member with us so the downstairs disabled access room was absolutely brilliant and perfect for our needs. We booked as a chance to spend a weekend away with us altogether as a family and that is exactly what we got thanks to this hidden gem of a house location is perfect and the garden with the weather being so nice was the best base for us all to relax and spend time together. 1010 for Ellies lodge we cant wait to come back thank you again to the owners for providing such a great place and for Sykes for making the booking process so smooth
Sylvie
The house was brilliant for a large multigenerational family huge, comfortable with plenty of room and lots to entertain everyone. BUT the Wifi let it down badly and is a deal breaker for returning next year. My elderly mother spends most of her time on the internet so ruined the holiday for her, my cousin had an extremely important meeting on Zoom and my partner was trying to register his Taekwondo pupils for a competition which was time sensitive. The only usable wifi hotspot was in the hall next to the router as the remote hotspots in the rooms repeatedly went down even if standing under them. The owner wasn't interested. He said had a cheap contract and they couldnt come out till Thursday we were leaving Friday 10am!. And guess what? They didnt turn up on Thursday! Come on this is 2022 and the wifi is patchy because a rural area is no longer an excuse. Sykes did their best though, and a door with faulty hinge was sorted straight away. For the benefit of future users of this property, bring some large saucepans, a decent frying pan and a colander if you are catering for a lot of people. It was complicated using multiple small pans. Also no baking trays or ceramic lasagnestyle dishes. Plenty of cutlery and crockery though. A dustpan and brush would have been useful, and a sign on the front door to show people the house was privately rented. That said, the property itself couldn't be faulted, huge, plenty of room and great fun to be in.
Had a fantastic week at the end of March for my 60th Birthday. There was 23 of us in our group all different ages, the house is big enough that you don't get in each other's way.Big kitchen and dining area, spent most evening's in the bar, made good use of the hot tub, sauna, and pool table, also aldi and m&s food hall are in walking distance, plenty of places to go and visit, plenty of places to eat and drink fifteen minutes walk. Could have done with some smaller glasses for juice, and maybe locks on the bedroom doors. But all in all everyone had a great time.
The cottage was great in every respect. But we all slept so badly every night. We couldn't work out why given temperatures were only just about 20 degrees in the day but the bedrooms were unbearably hot and stuffy. After the first night I called you to ask if there were fans in any of the locked rooms. You said you'd ask the owner and let us know. But we never heard back from you. We'd never stay at the cottage again or recommend it to others, despite it being great. We came back shattered due to such poor sleep! One night my 16 year old son and I were still awake at 3am not what you want on an activity holiday.
Maxine
The house is absolutely stunning and very clean. There were no wine glasses just very small ones which I would use for Champagne. No tumblers so had our morning fresh orange out of pint glasses. No ping pong balls, this was reported during our stay but we didn't get any. Also a very little toilet roll supplied, some bathrooms had none, think you need to let your guests know in advance. It's a shame these small things let it down.
We had a fantastic time, the only downside is there was bedrooms cordoned off which we was not made aware of before our visit.
Abigail
A fantastic stay! amazing house with the best facilities and very comfortable. We all really enjoyed our stay and Sykes were extremely helpful. thank you.
Thomas M
The listing on Sykes Cottages doesn't do justice to how incredible this property really is. You have to see it to believe it. Our booking was for 17 men, so naturally you'll need a way to keep them entertained with the pool table, dartboard, hot tub, sauna, ping pong table and let's not forget the ample space, you're guaranteed a group of very happy guys. The host was also at hand if we had any issues. Luckily nothing too problematic required her input, but it was great to know.
Michael
Big family so the accommodation was perfect in every way and excellent location. Local zoo was spot on and plenty of pubs in ulverston for the adults. To be honest there was more than enough to do in the lodge itself, will defiantly come again. It Was my wife's 50th and she loved it!Wasnt too far from the majority from Leeds and some from Scotland, ideal.
We have been going away as a family for 20 years in various houses with various companies. This has been the best. Location a bit strange, but didn't bother us.
For a large group in the summer holidays this house was perfect. Lots of games for the kids, pool table, table tennis, darts, hot tub, sauna and a bar for the adults. It was extremely clean, and every room had an ensuite. Very short drive to the village and to Booths to stock up the fridge. I would remember to pack hand soap, shower gel, shampoos etc as there isnt any. The location isnt as expected its not quite as rural as it appears you are next to a garden centre & near a main road but its quiet and lots of room for parking. we had awful weather for August but this meant we enjoyed the sauna & hot tub even more because of this. And the cosy log fire in the evening. Overall we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend this house for large groups & families.
Our party of 24 was very comfortably accommodated and we found the facilities excellent. I have slightly downrated the accuracy of the listing only because the directions for finding the cottage are not very helpful. I suggest you replace them as follows From the M6, take the A590, which bypasses Ulverston as a dual carriageway. After the traffic lights at the end of the dual section, continue on the A590 for about 150 yards, turn right into Pennington Lane and then go straight ahead into the Hill Foot Garden Centre. Ellie's Lodge will be on your left. I also marked down the cleanliness slightly because the kitchen floor was very sticky and we had to mop it seveal times. It is quite understandable that in a property with so many bathrooms toilet items are not provided, but it would be useful for guests to be told of this in advance. On a positive note, we were most impressed that when we pointed out that despite the large supply of glasses there were no flutes for champagne they were very promptly provided. I hope you will take these remarks as constructive criticisms.. Overall we could not have made a better choice for our family reunion.
We had a great holiday at Ellie's Lodge. It's a lovely large comfortable house with all the essentials bar, pool table, sauna! All the rooms are a decent size and the house absorbs lots of people with ease.
Ellies Lodge exceeded our expectations in a big way. Everything about the house was outstanding. So much room and a perfect place for a large group of adults to enjoy birthday celebrations. Will definitely be recommending the property and all 23 of us said they would also. Incredible place!
Edith Helen
A lovely large house, lots of space for everyone in our group and excellent facilities. It is clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and well equipped. The downside is that it is positioned next to the garden centre so shares the car park and there is a motor home business and some landscaping work going on too which means there is a bit of finishing off and tidying up to do around the back of the house. However, once inside you are unaware of these things and the house and garden feel very private. All in all, a brilliant venue for a family and friends gathering to celebrate a milestone birthday.
Debbie
This property was amazing and extremely comfortable. There were 26 adults in our party and there was ample space for everyone. The furnishings and standard of all the rooms was to a very high spec and we couldnt have asked for more.
