Moss Side Farm Cottage Reviews

Stephen
We had a lovely time in the cottage it was very roomy throughout, although the kitchen is compact, it has loads of character and we loved the atmosphere. You can tell the building is so old, but that added to the trip. Also, the hot tub was very welcome after a good day of walking and climbing.
Charlotte
We were a family of 5 with a dog celebrating Christmas in this wonderful house. We especially loved the shared living room space with comfy sofas and armchairs in front of the fireplace. The house was charming and comfortable and surprisingly quiet for being on a working farm. The views out of the bedroom windows were gorgeous, the old beams in some of bedrooms really added to the cosy feel this house has. We all felt comfortable and 'at home' and looked forward to returning after a day out hiking. The hot tub was bliss in the evenings and easy to manage. Thank you to the owners who were friendly and accommodating at the same time mindful of our space while we stayed. The dogs and other animals added to the charm of this place.
We have a great weekend at this lovely cottage. It was exactly what we wanted for a family weekend away. Lovely location. Would recommend to others and we will definitely look to return sometime in the future.
Absolutely lovely period cottage, with bags of charm. Lovely size property for the 6 of us plus our 2 dogs. There was everything that we needed for our stay, and the hit tub was wonderful! Thank you for a great holiday.
Bethany
If youre looking for a break in the lakes, without the annoyance of the hustle and bustle of tourists like you find at Bowness for example, then this is exactly the place you need to book. The character filled 500 year old cottage is located within a working farm with a small campsite to the side. Not once were we disturbed by any jobs being done on the farm or the campers coming and going. The hot tub was in a perfect location to enjoy some of the scenery but still isolated from view of campers and sheltered from the wind. The various animals wandering around the farm were a constant source of entertainment and enjoyment, the dogs were all extremely well behaved and comical the highlight for us was the unexpected litter of 4 week old puppies we were welcomed by which made leaving here that little more difficult! The walks around that are listed in the welcome book were clearly instructed and perfect for dog walkers just be prepared for some hills if youre used to more flat walking. Thank you again to Louise and her family for being wonderful hosts and we look forward to coming back in the future
Robert
A real gem of a place. Beautifully presented 400 year old cottage on a working farm. If you'd like a place to relax after a day walking around the lakes, this place is perfect . There are friendly dogs, cows , pigs, and goats which love being fussed over. Guaranteed good nights sleep in this cottage. Three generations of us stayed at moss side Farm Cottage, and all of us felt the benefits . The owners are very nice and helpful if needed . The only downside of our stay was having to leave after a fantastic time. Highly recommend to anyone.

We had a wonderful stay at Moss Side Farm. The cottage was cosy but roomy enough for 7 of us. Louise owner is easy to contact and very friendly. A special thankyou to her for taking the trouble to post back a loved teddy. Everyone we met was so friendly and the area is beautiful. The younger ones loved playing with the dogs and the hot tub was lush. Thankyou.
When we arrived in the dark we were welcomed by a cottage that was reminiscent of the cottage in the romantic film The Holiday. Warm, welcoming and just so perfect for our Christmas break. The children loved the farm, we all loved the star gazing and I loved the pure beauty of this traditional farmhouse cottage. The whole experience was just what we needed and the location is perfect to travel to lots of beauty spots. Highly recommend
We booked the cottage for 3 days over the Christmas period, it was absolutely fantastic. Very clean and tidy, great location, all the facilities that we needed. A great experience of an English cottage, we will be looking to book again in the summer to enjoy the local area. Would definitely recommend.
Very impressive cottage . Loved our stay. Couldnt have picked a better stay, we will be back
The house is a traditional farmhouse with lots of low wooden beams, antique furniture and beautiful rugs strewn around. The enclosed garden was perfect for our two dogs. There are plenty of walks around although the nearest pub is 7 minutes away in the car and the nearest shop some distance. The location is beautiful but be mindful that there is a campsite which was close to the end of the garden which was fine by us. The hot tub was wonderful after a days walking.
Our second stay, and we love Moss Side Farm. It's homely, comfortable and we were made so welcome. It's just as one would expect from a Lakeland working farm. You can tell that every effort is made here for our comfort and for an easy, friendly holiday. Love the Farm, all the animals and dogs, just chilled and fun, and beautiful!
Rachel
Moss side has the potential to be a fabulous holiday cottage. The location for exploring the southern lakes is great and the hot tub in the back garden is a lovely welcome back. A welcome pack and some general instructions would have been great on arrival as we spent the rest of the week guessing what was required of us with rubbishhot tub maintenance etc. Unfortunately I suspect people before us had been smoking and the smell had lingered which did not help the greeting either The mugs in the kitchen were fabulous for a homely brew, sadly the rest of equipment was a bit sparse, only just enough sets of cutlery for each of us, so we either had to wash upon run the dishwasher between every meal we also had to buy a pan to do breakfast pancakes, however we do cook most meals when away, so maybe not an issue if you eat out most of the time I hate to list niggles all in all it was what we needed, but did not feel quite like the 'treat' we thought we had paid for
George
What a wonderful place. Being in a working farm was lovely. From being greeted by a cute dog, to having goats eat outside of the window added to the experience. The kids loved it. The cottage was what you want from a country cottage and was very spacious. The hot tub is set in a nice private garden and a treat after a day out. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is set in a beutiful quiet part of the Lakes, but is only a short drive to the more popular areas. In all this was a very enjoyable week in a lovely cottage.
Absolutely loved staying here. Wonderful cottage and location, lovely hosts, reasonable price. Will definitely be back.
It's a great cottage if you have dogs we had a lovely time only thing is it could do with more cutlery and small plates and I would take an ovenglove with you and take your own pillows if you like more than one. Nice cottage In a nice location would definitely book again
Wonderful cottage in fabulous location. Could do with a welcome pack to work heating, tv and general stuff but that would be the only constructive feedback. Would definitely come again
We had a lovely time at the cottage. Couldnt use the hot tub as it had no protection from the rain, which was a shame, but it was cosy, warm and just what we needed.
Party of six friends in need of a break. The farm house was relaxing and set in an idyllic location. Being on a working farm we were visited by many animals and the little dogs made our stay complete bliss. Recommend to anyone one who needs to relax.
Jessica
The owner greeted us when we arrived and was warm and friendly and gave us all the information we needed. The cottage was beautiful, just what you would expect from a 400 year old character cottage. I would definitely recommend it and hope to come back.
Fabulously quirky old cottage perfect for our large family. Loved the hot tub and how quiet it was. Plenty of animals both feathered and furry paid a visit to us while we there. We will definitely visit again.
Beautiful place, so comfortable and stress free. We loved the animals wondering around, they made the pace extra special. A really relaxing experience, just what a holiday should be. Definitely returning next year!
Amazing place to get away from the rat race and live healthy! Please try it x
Bethany
We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you so much. Only point that didnt bother us at all but might bother others was a few cobwebs that had been missed by the cleaners for a good while. The place is beautiful. The walks on the grounds amazing and the children absolutely loved being able to walk around and see the animals every day. We would definitely visit again!
Lovely stay at Moss Side. Cottage was great and exactly as described. Louise was lovely and made us very welcome. Great location for touring South Lakes and surrounding area. Would deft recommend.
Very helpful and friendly. Great place for children hot tub a hit. Very comfortable. Broughton has Post Office, Petrol station, Butchers Bakers Grocers. So no need to travel too far for supplies. Our two boys want to go again so they think Moss Side is great.
Michael
The cottage is in a really peaceful location despite being on a farm and next to the campsite. The hot tub was great, the bedrooms were all nice and comfortable and the animals wandering around were very entertaining. Only downsides were that the water pressure was quite low in the showers and toilets but probably to be expected in such a rural location and Wifi wasn't good so joining a Teams meeting had to be done by mobile 4g which just about coped. We don't have a car so travelled by train to Foxfield and the disused Coniston line is a really handy way to get to the cottage.
Beautiful farmhouse that has kept and embraced all original features ! Louise was warm and welcoming. The kids loved feeding the pigs and watching the ducklings !
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The location is stunning. The owners are friendly and helpful. We hope to return to this special place!
Super cottage in a lovely location, perfect for exploring the Lakes. Big, spacious and with the added bonus of a hot tub to relax in at the end of a tiring day. Would definitely recommend it.
Friendly people, great spot, the house suited our needs
Rachel
The cottage was much larger than expected which was great and had a good enclosed garden however some basics were missing such as a mop. The location was good but the farm also had a campsite which was right next to the cottage and was not expected. We envisioned a cottage away from it all but ended up sharing the space with about 50 other campers. The cottage was tired in places but I guess to be expected from an old house. The owner was very friendly.
My family and I had a wonderful time at Moss Farm Cottage. The views are to die for and the wealth of knowledge from the host was superb. Would highly recommend and definitely rebooking.
Joanne
Great location the owner was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble .
We stayed for a 2 night break. Only the two of us and two dogs. We loved this rustic cottage in really beautiful surroundings. Owner welcomed us and was really friendly. Great walks closeby. Be prepared .... 20 minutes to closest shop! Thank you for a great two days.
Mathew
The cottage was homely, cosy, spacious and full of character. Owners were very friendly and helpful. The site is run on renewable energy, which was great to hear. We had a great stay, thank you.
Nicola
Ive got to be honest. The level of cleanliness was disappointing, especially considering the current circumstances. We were told we could not check in until 5pm due to the extra cleaning that needed to be done due to COVID. I seriously doubly that any extra cleaning took place. The bathrooms were quite mouldy, we had to purchase bleach to clean the bathrooms and kitchen sink areas. There were thick layers of dust and cobwebs everywhere. Skirting boards, window sills and cooker was also dirty. We had to request for the hot tub to be emptied and refilled after only one use because it was cloudy, foamy and full of scum. However, the owners were nice and any requests were met. I would stay here again if the level of cleanliness was improved. The cottage is well equipped and the kids loved the animals and stream nearby. We loved the location, however the listing stated that Cottage is not overlooked by the campers when it actually is. The views are stunning and the walk to Broughton village only takes about 40 min.
Danielle
This was a surprise weekend away for my husbands 30th along with his two brothers their partners and his mum and dad. We also had our two children aged 2 and 6 and our little beagle Belle. The cottage is beautiful very spacious and comfortable Louise and her partner were very helpful and near by if ever needed. We had a lovely walk in the area surroundings and our two little girls were very made up being able to see the animals and meeting Duchess for a stroke. All in all we got home yesterday evening and are already looking to return in the summer time so a massive massive thank you.
Samantha
We enjoyed the most fantastic family weekend very cosy warm comfortable cottage in a lovely area with a lovely host. Many thanks
