Slaters Cottage Reviews

Emma
Really enjoyed our stay! The location was perfect for walks with the dogsand the cottage was super cosy, warmand comfy. Definitely coming back!
Emma
The place felt a bit worn and tired, but honestly, the location totally made up for it. We loved it!
Emma
We recently stayed at this lovely old cottage and honestly, it’s quite charming despite a few quirks. The location is perfect, nestled close to Cathedral Caves and Slaters Bridgeand it’s a popular spot because it’s on the Cumbrian Way, so you get some passing foot traffic. The road leading down to it is pretty narrow and single lane, so definitely take your time driving there. There’s a pub about ten minutes’ walk away, which is handy for a quick pint or meal. The cottage itself has heaps of character with its uneven floors and thick stone walls - you can tell it’s been around a while! Keep in mind, there are quite a few steps everywhere, so not ideal if you struggle with mobility. The bathroom downstairs is a decent size, with a good electric showerand it was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is a good size too, with underfloor heating in part of it, which was lovely. However, we did find the plates and glasses were a bit dirty, so we had to give them a wash ourselves, which was a bit of a pain. There’s a small dishwasher, so that’s a bonus. One issue was the strong oil smell in the downstairs bedroom. We reported it to Original Cottages, who sent someone out, but it’s clear it’s an ongoing problem that needs fixing. The window in that room is painted shut except for a tiny top panel, which we left open along with the door and other windows in the house, but the smell persisted. Upstairs, the small single and double rooms were comfy enoughand the sitting/dining area was cosy with nice sofas. The internet isn’t the best - thick walls do hinder the signal, so some boosters might help. Overall, a lovely stay with a few niggles.
Emma
We stayed at this place recently and honestly, the kids loved the little play area inside the Ford-it kept them entertained for ages! The beds were comfyand we found most of what we needed. However, the cottage could do with a proper deep clean, not just a quick wipe-down. It was a bit disappointing that there was no vacuum or long-handled brush available to tidy up the dog fur and dust. Also, a fan in the front bedroom would have been a lifesaver since it got pretty warm, even with the windows open. On the plus side, taking the dogs was no problemand the local spa was a definite highlight for the family. The garden’s quite small and not very secure, but the peaceful setting made up for it. We had a decent stay overall!
Oliver
The cottage is in a lovely spot, really peaceful. It’s quite simple but feels warm and inviting. With a bit more upkeep and some recycling options, it could be even better. We enjoyed our stay though!

Lovely spot

The place is in a great spot, but honestly, it’s pretty run-down, not very cleanand the leisure areas were closed without warning-disappointing!
James
We really enjoyed our stay at Slaters Cottage. The location is perfect, with plenty of lovely walks right outside the door. The place was cosy and warm, which was just what we needed. However, it could do with a bit more in the way of amenities and some clearer info about the local area, recyclingand nearby services. Also, the boiler in the bedroom had a faint oil smell, which was a bit off-putting, but manageable. Overall, it was a lovely stay with just a few small improvements needed!
Ellie
We recently stayed at this charming cottageand while the location really is stunning with breathtaking views, there are a few things that didn’t quite meet expectations. First off, the cleanliness was a bit disappointing-starting with a bathroom rug that smelled and looked quite wornand it was wet, which was pretty off-putting. The smell of fuel lingering in one of the rooms was concerning, especially with a broken window and a “do not open” notice on it; we’re not sure if it’s entirely safe. The kitchen also left a lot to be desired-during our stay, the oven and hob weren’t properly cleaned, with old grease and grime still visibleand a layer of dust hanging around. We also found a black sock tucked under the sofa which was pretty gross. Access to cleaning stuff like the vacuum would’ve been helpfuland having washing machine capsules available would be a nice touch, so guests don’t have to worry about bringing their own. We totally get that it’s an old cottage style, but it should still be maintained to a decent standard, especially given the price. Overall, it’s got potential, but it needs a good spruce-up and a proper clean to make it truly comfortable for guests. It’s a shame, because the location really is lovely! Hopefully these issues can be sorted out soon.
Emily Carter
Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with our stay. The place looks lovely and the views are stunning, plus there are some nice walks nearby. However, the property isn’t really dog-friendly at all - my dog managed to get over the wall in seconds, which isn’t safe or secure for pets. It’s a shame because the positives stop there. Wouldn’t recommend if you’ve got a dog that’s likely to squeeze through small gaps.
Emma
We loved staying here! The location is simply fantastic, right in the centre of the Lake District. Perfect for walk lovers - so many routes right outside. Plus, getting to Ambleside, Grasmereand Coniston is a breeze. Plenty to see and do nearby, making it a great base for exploring!
Emma
We really enjoyed our stay at Slaters Cottage - such a charming and cosy spot in the Lakes! The kitchen had everything we needed, which was great. The access road is a bit narrow, but our van managed fine. Totally worth it for those peaceful river paddles at dawn and dusk!
James
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, the setting was absolutely stunning. The only hiccup was with the electrics, but they sorted it out quickly-big thanks for that! It would’ve been helpful to get more details beforehand, like that it’s on a narrow track ending in a ford. Not a big issue, just nice to know in advance.
Emma
We had such a lovely stay at Slaters Cottage! The location is truly breathtaking, with loads of scenic walks right on the doorstep. The cottage strikes a great balance between rustic charm and modern comforts - it felt cosy but well-equipped, especially the kitchen which had everything a family might need. The log fire created a lovely atmosphere in the evenings, though we also appreciated the central heating on chillier nights. Communication from Original Cottages was spot on, making everything smooth and easy. Honestly, we’re already planning our next visit - can’t wait to come back for another short escape!
