Foxdene Cottage Reviews

The cottage is gorgeous and is located in a beautiful area. There is a nearby pub and a short drive into Windemere. There is quite a few rules for dogs staying at the property, which I wasn't aware of prior to booking. Would recommend making these aware as the pups aren't allowed upstairs, on furniture, in the back garden, had to be leads so felt like they weren't really allowed to be there. The cottage comes well stocked, and has stunning views.

Thank you so much for a lovely stay! The Christmas tree was a beautiful touch. Merry Christmas!
Andrew
Very nice property, the driveway wasn't easy in a small car due to the undulations. Although we would recommend the property to anyone who wants a home from home feel to their holiday.
Stephanie
The stay was okay, but for the money we would have liked something a bit better kept the pictures also don't accurately portray the garden which is on an extremely high slope and relatively unusable if you want to play with the kids. Dogs are also not allowed on It. It also seems that the owners are quite parsimonious in nature as they charge a large mark up for logs to be used in the hot tub or fire place, something we weren't able to fully utilise as a thermometer that was used to check hot it was was not functioning. We notified the owners of this and to our utter shock they tried to claim our dog had somehow chewed it despite it never leaving the hot tub and by their rules, dogs were not be outside the property unaccompanied off lead so I can't fathom how they believed this happened. We told Sykes that we had no part in it's damage and they proceeded to automatically charge our account without any discussion despite us having texts to show we notified the owner.
Beautiful cottage in a secluded location which is just what we wanted but easy to get to Windermere for days out. The views are stunning and couldnt have asked for a nicer place to stay. We had no issues with the hot water like other people have mentioned. The beds were super comfortable! Owner was lovely and was happy to help with any thing we needed.

Beautiful cottage, beautiful views! !! It was a perfect stay thank you
Stunning Cottage in a beautiful secluded location. Foxdene really does tick all the boxes. This Cottage is very tastefully decorated throughout, a very comfortable and cosy loungedining area, and a very well equipped kitchen. Both bedrooms are very comfortable and the master bedroom looks and feels luxurious. We loved the outside space, great parking area, the garden for the dogs and lovely patio area. The owners Tom and Diane made us extremely welcome, they were very informative and helpful. Weve had lots of great stays in the Lake District over the years but this ranks as one of the best, so we would highly recommend Foxdene. Very much hoping to return next year. Thankyou for an amazing stay in your beautiful cottage. Karen and Dave
What a place the best I have ever stayed in around that area. So peaceful and private internet works perfect. The owners lives next door and always on hand to help out. Excellent location for food and Kendal with views you will only see in pictures. Well worth the money and would never stay anywhere else if in that area again. Private parking very safe easy to find.
Matthew
The property is amazing! Beautiful living room and bedrooms, with a brilliant kitchen facilities. The property was clean and tidy and the furnishings were comfortable and maintained a warm cozy environment. It was the first time using a wood burning hot tub and unfortunately, although amazing once ready it with stunning views, it took a lot of time and effort to prepare. I would definitely recommend this property to all, amazing property and in a great location.
Really cute property with gorgeous beams and features. Lovely views across the countryside and very secluded if you want to get away from the bustling tourist hub of Windermere itself. Hot tub is lush and actually doesn't take a huge amount of effort to get up to temperature. The kids toys and amenities were also a handy touch for our busy one year old who likes new and interesting things. Property was spotless and bed really comfy. Would return.

Spectacular views Had a lovely time with our grandson celebrating our 33rd Anniversary. He loved the hot tub!
Had lovely, peaceful & relaxing stay. Beautiful cosy cottage. Thank you.

Thank you for a lovely stay just what we needed!
Charlotte
Disappointed that the hot tub wasnt heated on arrival. Weve not had a stay before where this has been the case, especially with a 4pm late arrival time. House was also very cold as no heating was on for arrival. Had some issues with hot water and not being able to get any after one person had a bath even after following the rules about hot water and heating. Again a shame when the property has two baths and showers. Property stunning and clean and in the middle of nowhere which was exactly what we were after. Overall we had a great stay and would stay again.
A truly lovely home in a beautiful setting. Great facilities, wonderful hosts. Excellent walks right from the door step. Stayed with my 4 year old son, two dogs and mum. Enjoyed two long walks each day to tire the dogs out and then day trips to the Aquarian, South Lakes Safari and Peter Rabbit world all circa 30mins drive. We took cages for our dogs and were glad we had as it was very muddy weather. The kitchen is a great area for dogs and socialising and we didnt really use the living room which was lovely but too nice for dogs. Would highly recommend this fabulous accommodation.

Had a lovely time. Underfloor heating so room go to a nice temperature quickly. Lovely views all around and peaceful
Anthony
Beautiful, clean, comfortable, its a house you would love to live in.

Strange condescending emails from Sykes from the start which got worse when reading material at the cottage. More a checklist of what we could or could not do emptying dishwasher sheets removed etc. Surprised we were not asked to clean the windows. Signs for cottage on the wrong side of the lane when approaching as directed. No heating or hot water on our arrival. Oven had not seen the cleaner for a long, long time. Blender was filthy and did not work. Both outside lights did not work. TV in top bedroom did not work. Curtains in top bedroom could not be pulled properly because of split plastic rings. Cannot imagine who would possibly want to use the hot tub. Apart from having to forage for wood to get the thing going it clearly had not had any attention vis the water level and more importantly the adding of the correct chemicals. Best of luck with that one in the future if you are leaving it's upkeep to the cleaners. An accident waiting to happen.
Beautiful cottage with super views to the rear of the property. Well maintained and very clean with a wonderful bedroom suite upstairs. The second bedroom downstairs not as big but still lovely.Outside seating area with great views. The only problem we had was the signeage at the top of the drive. We drove past twice. Needs better signs to Foxdene Cottage to both sides of the entrance. Other than that we had a lovely time.
Excellent accommodation excellent facilities however the curtains and blinds in ... Excellent accommodation excellent facilities however the curtains and blinds in the lounge were very tired worn and the curtains upstairs in the bedroom coming off the hooks the stair gate didnt work properly and externally needed a coat of paint and tidy up Check in time also to late
Robert
Lovely quiet and peaceful location for a get away. We had a fantastic time thank you. Visitors should note road access is very narrow passable single carriageway when close to the cottage as described not for drivers nervous driving in the dark. Two things to comment on The pub is one and a half miles away, not less than a mile as described and in our view not safe to walk on such narrow and unlit roads. Pub and restaurant itself were absolutely fantastic. Finally one settee and the matching armchair in the lounge are not as per the photographs more importantly not at all comfortable due to cushions not providing support.
This cottage is in a very quiet spot, down a very narrow country lane. Sitting on the patio looking over the fields in the sunshine hearing nothing but the occasional sheep bleet was fantastic. The cottage is very well equipped and the master bedroom stunning. The second bedroom, also with ensuite is also very good. Just 10 minutes drive from Kendal and 20 minutes to Ambleside, is in a perfect location.
Michael
Foxdene is a really lovely cottage. Its been renovatedconverted to a high standard and offers very comfortable and spacious accommodation in a beautiful location. The only negative, that prevented a five star rating, was that it was cold on arrival and didnt warm adequately until the following day. From then on it was cosy and we enjoyed spending time there. Whats really disappointing is that this has been covered in feedback before. A warm welcome would have been so nice after a long journey rather than sitting in our coats.
Bought my own tongs for the kitchen and funny attitude about providing bin bags but this is petty stuff! Beautiful and comfortable house Very well appointed and maintained. Fantastic location. Wifi unreliable probably due to geography but that's ok for holiday as we all need to disconnect to relax properly.Would certainly stay there again.
Jessica
A beautiful cottage in a lovely location.
This cottage is in a great location, everything was perfect for our needs, thank you
Graham
There was no hot water when we arrived so we put the boost on, didnt seem to do anything. As we were not in need of hot water at the time we left it till the following morning expecting that overnight the system would heat up. Underfloor and radiator heating was working ok. The following morning there was still no hot water. I contacted the maintenance man Quintin and told him about the problem. A few minutes later he called me back and asked me to check in the understairs cupboard, I found a couple of switches which were in the off position. On Quintins instructions I switched those on and about an hour later we had hot water. Why wasnt this checked before our arrival? The tv remote control in the bedroom didnt work, the batteries inside it had corroded. Why wasnt this checked before our arrival? The tv in the bedroom had a freesat connection and tv programmes were plentiful with excellent reception. The tv in the lounge had a normal aerial and reception was, at best, abysmal. Why couldnt the lounge tv be connected to the freesat service?
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Foxdene Cottage, the house itself was very spacious and homely with the most beautiful views. If you are looking for a rural escape I couldnt recommend it enough, it was so peaceful and relaxing with plenty to do in surrounding areas and Lake Windermere just a short drive away. We will definitely be coming back here when we next visit the lakes!
A lovely cottage in a delightful setting, comfortable and well equipped to a high standard, we had a great week. We'd been prewarned about building work next door which didn't bother us at all. Be aware the garden is not secure for dogs to run unsupervised with sheep in the adjoining field. And we were surprised no heating was on when we arrived, took until the next day to get the house warmed through. But overall a wonderful stay.
Michael
We were disappointed that the garden grass was out of bounds to Dogs ! The adjacent property isn't even correctly fenced off ! Just a piece of rope segregated both gardens .... if we knew we couldn't use it then we wouldn't have booked it....the description needs to be accurate in future.
The cottage is AWESOME our 7th year there, lovely, stunning place suits our every need! ! The problem is dealing with Sykes, NEVER HAD a problem with Lakelovers!! This is a shame Sykes has taken over the booking side! Websites a nightmare to use, not happy at all with this move!!
The cottage was very well equipped and the layout works really well for four adults and a dog. The huge master bedroom is excellent in that there is a separate space to chill and watch television, if thats what you want to do. I was a bit apprehensive about the very narrow drive at first but there was so little traffic we didnt have a problem. We went out and about every day and explored the different lakes and surrounding countryside. I was really impressed with the general cleanliness and lack of litter wherever we went, a pleasant change from home. People in shops and pubs are very friendly and helpful and made us welcome. Im sure we will return.
Location is perfect if you want peace & quiet with spectacular views & walks in your doorstep
When we arrived the hot water had totally been turned off and we had to find 4 different switches to turn it on. The cottage has under floor heating and took nearly 24 hrs to get up to a decent temperature as again this was all turned off. It was warmer outside the cottage than the inside If a cottage is being rented out in the winter it is only fair that it is warm when the guests arrive
Dr Rowntree
The property is much higher spec than it appeared on line. The quality of the cottage was excellent and the location was ideal for us. We got to explore a new area of the Lakes but also were close enough to visit our favourite areas too. Overall we had a great time and would use Lakelovers again
Mr Harries
It was wonderful to be in the peace of the countryside away from crowds of people. We all relaxed including the dog.
